3 die, 3 others injured in explosion at spa facility in Shibuya

An explosion at a spa facility in the Shibuya district of Tokyo on Tuesday afternoon left three women dead and three others injured, police and fire fighters said.

Officers from Shibuya Police Station and Tokyo Fire Department were investigating Shiespa, a facility exclusively for women, over the cause of the blast that occurred at about 2:30 p.m.

Three women working at the facility were declared dead following the huge blast. Two other women who works for the facility and a man, who is believed to be a passerby, were injured, officers said.

The explosion occurred in the hot spring-drilling section of the annex at the spa facility. The employees' dressing room was located on the first floor of the annex. The five women were in the dressing room at the time of the blast.

The spa facility is located in an up-market residential district of Shibuya-ku. (Mainichi)
